Welcome to my backyard--the Florida Keys! I'm a travel writer, blogger and photographer with a passion for all things Florida, especially the Florida Keys. These islands are so much more than Duval Street and Jimmy Buffet. They are rich in history, culture, cuisine, nature and events--all surrounded by pristine waters teeming with wildlife. Whether you're a local or a visitor, the Conch Republic has many surprises in store. Let me be your guide.
Our journey took only seven minutes — a quick boat ride from bustling Key West to a secluded stretch of sand at Sunset Key, a 27-acre island paradise. Eager to try The Spa’s new sunset romance package, my boyfriend and I met massage therapists, Karen and Jessica, waterfront at our private thatched-covered cabana. As we lay on the tables during our 80-minute massages, the sounds of water lapping the shore, boats passing by and the snap of canvas walls in the wind made it sound as if we were at sea. The cool breeze blew across my skin as Karen kneaded out all my worries.
Afterwards, we relaxed in fluffy blue robes at our linen-covered table in the shade of the swaying palms. Arman, our waiter, appeared with a chilled bottle of Roederer Estate Napa Valley sparkling. We raised our glasses in a toast as our tropical-infused dinner (included in the package) began with creamy lobster bisque and Sunset Key shrimp plumped up with crabmeat stuffing. The sky served up a colorful show at sunset with a sliver of moon already shining above the horizon. The stars winked into view, and time seemed to slow down during this romantic interlude for two.
